History

'Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.'

Marie Curie

At Christ Church, we believe that a high-quality history education will help our children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.

Our intention for all of our children, irrespective of their needs, abilities or backgrounds, is to learn to read fluently and with understanding; we strive to ensure that no one falls behind.

Our history curriculum is designed to inspire our children’s curiosity to know more about the past, equip them to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgment. It also helps our children to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

We incorporate the history of our school and that of the local area within some of our topics and lessons, allowing the children to gain a deeper insight into the rich history of their own locality.
