English: Reading

‘I do not remember a time when I could not read, nor any time when reading was not a joy and a solace.’

Emmeline Pankhurst

At Christ Church Primary School, it is our aspiration for all of our children to be readers.

Our intention for all of our children, irrespective of their needs, abilities or backgrounds, is to learn to read fluently and with understanding; we strive to ensure that no one falls behind.

At Christ Church we nurture readers and our children are encouraged to read widely and often, for both pleasure and meaning. Enjoyment and enthusiasm underpin our approach to Reading. Even before our children have command of the alphabetic code, we place great importance on the sharing of books and stories, both in school and at home, from the very start of our children’s reading journey.
